Unfortunately due to Jackies sinlessness he is actually frightened. His fear of giving a bad confession, as he is sure he will do, is whimsical because we know that Jackies fate is not going to develop a walk of life mortal sin. Another example of humor used from this point-of-view is w hen Jackie is suspension system in the conf! essional upside down attempting to confess his sins to the priest. During this scene Jackie locomote from the confessional, out into the church floor where everybody can see him. OConnors writing here is brilliant in that he can provide a sensory faculty humor while viewing this from Jackies point-of-view.
